A 16th note timing exercise that helps build the fundamental idea of natural sticking. Through the first 4 bars, your right hand should play a constant stream of 8th notes. And through the last 4 bars, your left hand will play a constant stream of 8th notes, only on the upbeat.

Stick Control

The classic stick control. The focus of this exercise is to maintain total consistency of sound between different stickings. It should sound like one consistent, continuous stream of 16th notes. Strive for quality in each stroke, regardless of sticking. This is the Stock SCV version of stick control.

Paradiddle Race

This is the exercise also know as 7/8 paradiddle, but in the second half, you race a friend to see who can finish first. Or if you want to play it to a met, that's fine too. This exercise has a quarter note pulse notated below, for anyone confused on where the beat lines up with the 7/8 and 7/16 time signatures. Try to think of it as 7, 8th note pulses, or just one bar of 7/4. Also included is a practice mp3!
